Using System File Checker

Check for Malware
Virus and Malware could be a probable reason for the Windows Explorer crash. I’ve evidenced it when my PC was infected with the Blocker Malware.
Make sure to perform a complete scan of your hard drive to hunt for any malicious snippets hiding.
System Restore
System Restore can restore your PC to the previous state. Hit Start > Search for ‘System Restore’ in Vista/7 or browse through Accessories > System Tools > System Restore in XP.

Stay Updated

Reinstall OS
This is the last resort when you finally resort to give up on the “Windows Explorer has Stopped Working” Error. Make sure you’ve tried all the steps mentioned above before resorting to do this
You can also try using the Repair feature provided with the installation Disc instead of Reinstallation
